Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Network Operations Engineer to join the SADA contractor program in supporting critical customer engagement. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining large-scale production networks while communicating clearly with customers and distributed teams. The successful candidate will work closely with the customer's Network Operations team to ensure operational excellence and stability of the secure network environment.

Required Credentials:

  • Experience in network operations or infrastructure support
  • Formal education in computer networking, information technology, or equivalent practical experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience monitoring and supporting 24x7 production network environments, including participation in on-call rotations
  • Hands-on operational experience with enterprise and service-provider networking equipment, such as routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and load balancers
  • Working knowledge of large-scale network environments, including backbone, edge, and corporate networks
  • Practical troubleshooting skills across TCP/IP and core L2/L3 networking, including LAN and WAN environments
  • Familiarity with common routing and switching concepts such as Spanning Tree, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, QoS/CoS, IPv4/IPv6, MAC addressing, and Anycast
  • Basic understanding of network security principles, including firewall policies and common network integrity threats (e.g., DDoS awareness and escalation handling)
  • Exposure to network hardware vendors commonly used in production environments (e.g., Juniper, Cisco, Arista, Ciena)
  • Ability to follow, update, and create network documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers during incidents and handoffs

Useful Qualifications:

  • Basic scripting or automation exposure (e.g., Python, Perl, or shell scripting) for operational tasks
  • Working knowledge of Linux or Unix-based systems (e.g., Red Hat or FreeBSD) in a network support context
  • Familiarity with packet filtering or host-based firewall concepts (e.g., iptables, IPFW)
  • Exposure to version control systems and simple automation or tooling workflows
  • Prior experience supporting global or geographically distributed networks
  • Awareness of cloud networking concepts

Scope and Solution Expectations:

  • Monitor production network infrastructure to ensure stability, availability, and performance across customer environments
  • Act as a first line of response for network alerts and incidents, performing initial triage, troubleshooting, and resolution within defined runbooks
  • Escalate complex or unresolved issues to senior engineers with clear documentation, logs, and problem summaries
  • Execute standard operational procedures such as configuration checks, failover validation, and routine maintenance tasks
  • Assist in identifying repeatable operational work and contribute to SOP improvements and basic automation, where appropriate
  • Maintain accurate network documentation and diagrams to support operational continuity
  • Communicate clearly with customers and internal teams during incidents, handovers, and shift transitions
  • The role is operationally focused and does not require architecture design, major network changes, or cloud platform ownership
