Job Description – Safety Officer / EHS Officer1. Position Details- Job Title: Safety Officer / EHS Officer- Department: EHS (Setting, Health & Safety)- Reporting To: Plant Head / EHS Manager2. Purpose of the RoleTo ensure compliance with statutory safety regulations, implement EHS systems, and promote a safe and healthy work environment within the plant.3. Key Responsibilities- A. Statutory Compliance- Ensure compliance with Factories Act & State Factory Rules- Liaison with Factory Inspectorate, Pollution Control Board, Fire Department- Maintain all statutory registers, records, and licenses (Factory License, Fire NOC, etc.)- B. Workplace Safety Management- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions- Ensure proper use of PPE across plant- C. Risk Assessment & Control- Carry out Risk Assessment / HIRA / JSA- Implement control measures to reduce risks- Monitor unsafe acts and conditions- D. Training & Awareness- Conduct safety training (Induction, Toolbox Talks, Fire Safety, etc.)- Organize Safety Week / Mock Drills- Promote safety culture among employees- E. Incident Management- Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions- Prepare reports with root cause analysis- Implement preventive and corrective actions- F. Environmental Management- Monitor air, water, noise levels- Ensure waste management & pollution control compliance- Maintain environmental records- G. Contractor Safety- Ensure contractor compliance with safety norms- Conduct safety induction for contract workers- Monitor high-risk jobs (Work at height, confined space, hot work, etc.)- H. Documentation & Reporting- Maintain EHS documentation (SOPs, permits, checklists)- Prepare monthly safety reports- Track KPIs (LTIFR, near miss, audit closure, etc.)4. Key Skills & Competencies- Knowledge of safety laws & standards- Risk assessment & hazard identification- Incident investigation skills- Communication & training ability- Attention to detail5. Qualifications- Degree/Diploma in Engineering / Science- Diploma/PG Diploma in Industrial Safety (mandatory/preferred)- Knowledge of ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 preferred6. Experience2–5 years (Officer) in manufacturing industry7. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)- Reduction in accidents / incidents- Audit compliance score (SGS / SEDEX / Internal)- Closure of safety observations- Training coverage (%)- Statutory compliance status8.
